I have been sponsoring an adorable little boy from Lesotho - a country in the middle of South Africa - for a year and a half. Setelekoane is 3 years old and has parents who can't provide for him. I got an adorable card at Christmas from Setie - just some scribbles, but it meant so much.
I have loved being able to make a difference in a family's life. It was such a small amount for me, but hopefully meant a lot to them.
It broke my heart to get a phone call from the organization. Setie under went surgery for his tuberculous and has had a tough time recovering. He died this week from his complications.
The little boy with so much potential. The little boy whom I planned on visiting in the next few years. If he lived in the States, he would have had proper medical care.
Wednesday morning when I got the call I was having a particularity busy day and was anxious about getting everything I needed to get done finished on time. After that I realized how futile that is. How much more I should be striving towards. How I should think of every day as a blessing from God and not as a right that I have.
